The Madrid Chamartin store charged me a fee even though I returned the car with a full tank. Why are they charging me when the tank was full upon return?

The staff at the pickup counter insisted on upgrading the car type, citing the luggage being too large to fit in the car, which felt like a forced upsell. Overall, not very satisfied with this rental experience.

I chose Compact (Volkswagen Golf) or similar. But I got a mini crossover Dacia Duster. The car was absolutely new and did it weekend job well.

The overall service attitude was acceptable, but the vehicle had many small dents and scratches, some of which were not recorded in their system. Luckily, I took photos as evidence during pickup, otherwise they might have tried to attribute those existing damages to me.

The rental company required purchasing their insurance at pickup, which I declined. There was no prior notice about the change in vehicle model. After completing the paperwork and receiving the car key, everything thereafter was self-service. The car provided was a Mercedes A180D instead of the Volkswagen T-Cross, and I was quite worried about scraping the undercarriage while driving on small roads. The staff at the return location were very friendly.

I scheduled a car pickup for 1:30 PM, but due to the large crowds during the Spring Festival, after completing the paperwork, the car was still not ready. I ended up waiting for over an hour and finally got the car close to 3 PM.

I actually went to a HERTZ store. I had an appointment to pick up the car at 9 AM, but since no one answered the phone when I called the store, I was worried they might not actually be open, so I ended up arriving around 10 AM. The staff member at the store initially told me that I was late and wanted to charge me a delay fee. Later, she mentioned I needed to purchase a €100 insurance but didn't explain it clearly with patience, just informed me about it and emphasized it was not mandatory. She said the email order she received didn't mention insurance, and when I showed her the reservation sheet, she didn't check it and simply replied, 'I don't understand,' before returning all my documents and asking me to contact customer service myself. After observing for a while, I noticed she spent quite a bit of time explaining this issue to the next two customers, but at least she gave them more detailed information than she did to me. Finally, at around 11:30 AM, I got the car, thanks to the timely callback from the customer service team at Zuzuche, who communicated with her again, and she finally clarified that the insurance was just being mentioned as an option.

The vehicle was very new, and both pick-up and drop-off were extremely convenient.

Overall it's fine, the car is in decent condition. However, purchasing insurance at the counter is very expensive. Consider carefully whether to buy online or at the counter.

Overall, it's okay. However, I hope customer service can assist with one issue. They charged in HKD because my credit card was issued by a Hong Kong bank. At the time, I specifically told them not to use HKD as the exchange rate is much worse, but they still used HKD for the authorization. Customer service, please help contact them to see if they can charge in EUR and cancel the HKD authorization. I have already sent them an email as well. Thank you.

When I arrived, they told me I needed to make a reservation one day in advance.
