They forcibly promoted insurance. Due to language barriers, we ended up purchasing duplicate insurance. This made our car rental experience in Australia very disappointing!
During the rental period, there was a traffic violation, and they transferred it to my name, charging a 55 AUD handling fee! Very unreasonable, as many companies don't charge this fee.
The Melbourne Airport branch is located outside the airport. The counter staff do not speak Chinese, and we waited a long time for the shuttle bus. When we arrived at the branch, we showed them the printed booking confirmation. We were renting the car for eight days, and the quoted cost at the branch was 826 AUD. However, they wanted to charge 1122 AUD. We questioned this, and the staff said it was because we hadn't paid the one-way rental fee. Confused, we signed the paperwork. When returning the car, we realized they had calculated the rental as nine days and added the one-way fee. After arguing our case, they acknowledged it and promised a refund upon vehicle return. Luckily, everything went smoothly. When we returned the car at Adelaide Airport, they were quite good—checked the car's condition, printed the bill immediately, and handed it to us. Overall, a positive experience.
The service was provided by Europcar, not Shouqi Car Rental. Overall, the process was smooth. Don't rely on Google Maps for navigation; follow the airport signs instead, it's easier to find.
The staff at the pickup location were all South Asians. My driver's license is valid for 'long-term,' and the international driving permit translation provided by Zuzuche also states 'long-term.' The staff found the term 'long-term' unclear and assumed my license had expired, claiming they couldn't read Chinese and couldn't verify the authenticity of what I said. After much debate, they refused to hand over the car until I translated every single line from my Chinese license into English for them (luckily, I have a background in international contract work and my English is decent). While I explained, they used their phones to cross-check my translation's accuracy. After more than an hour of back-and-forth, they finally allowed me to take the car.
In addition to credit and debit cards, you can now pay for online car rentals with cryptocurrency! Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are accepted. Curious about how long a Bitcoin transaction takes or how to pay with Bitcoin? Read our FAQs for more details.
