I strongly suspect that Loxauto rental company intentionally makes things difficult for Chinese customers or for those who did not purchase full insurance from them. If you don't buy the full insurance, you either have to pay extra to upgrade the car model or wait for a long time. We waited for four hours and had to ask support from Zuzuche multiple times before we finally got the car, which seriously disrupted our itinerary.
Overall good. The car was very new, with just over 7000 km mileage. It is rear-wheel drive, which sometimes lacked power when driving in the Tuscan countryside, especially on gravel roads or uphill dirt roads.
Firstly, the pick-up and drop-off instructions provided by Zuzuche have issues. For picking up the car, the procedure should be to handle the paperwork at the Naples airport desk first, then take a shuttle bus to the parking lot 4km away to collect the car. Instead, Zuzuche directed us straight to the parking lot, only for us to find out there that we needed to return to the airport for paperwork. The efficiency at the airport desk is low; the slow-moving staff took 20 minutes just to assist one person.
For dropping off the car, they provided us an address for a parking lot 800 meters from the train station. After driving there and circling around twice, we couldn’t locate anyone for the inspection. We ended up parking the car at a spot marked with Locauto signage. At this point, we encountered a young Italian man with poor English skills who told us to go to the first floor and find the parking lot manager to call the car rental company. We did find the manager, but instead of making the call, he instructed us to drop the car keys into a box set up by the rental company.
After we finally sorted things and returned to the train station, we realized that the drop-off and inspection should have been done at the station office. The Locauto staff were, however, very sincere and assured us to trust them as they would inspect the car afterwards at the parking lot.
Overall it was fine. There were some issues with the driving license validity during pickup, but it was resolved. The return process was smooth and took just a few minutes. However, the car model was changed without prior notification, and I only found out at pickup. Thankfully, the new car was easy to drive and didn't cause any problems.
Not bad overall. They didn't provide the originally booked car at pickup. The first car they gave us couldn't fit our luggage, so the staff switched it for another one. At drop-off, the staff checked the car very thoroughly and fined us for wheel scratches.
Picked up the car at Rome train station and returned it at Milan train station. There were staff in the parking buildings to assist with the pick-up and return procedures, which was very satisfactory. However, the rental office at Rome train station is quite far from the parking building, making it a bit challenging to find the car after completing the rental formalities.
This was my first time renting a car abroad, and I was very satisfied. The rental process with Locauto was smooth from pickup to return, with compliant procedures and high efficiency. There was absolutely no pressure to buy insurance. Driving through Tuscany was truly enjoyable.
The service was decent, although they did try to upsell. Communication might be a bit challenging due to language barriers. They added a 30-euro towing insurance during the process, but after reviewing the payment records and communicating in time, it was refunded. However, I was charged 25 euros about ten days later, supposedly for a violation.
