The issue was that when I picked up the car at the train station, the staff simply handed me the keys and said they had already inspected the car. But when I returned the car at the airport, the staff claimed there was a new scratch on the front left bumper and refused to accept my video evidence. They gave me a statement form to fill out and submit to the rental company, but they still insisted that I pay €218 for the repair on the spot before allowing me to leave. I had purchased separate car damage insurance back in my home country and didn’t buy the full coverage from Sicily. Arguing with the staff was futile, so I had no choice but to pay and then file for reimbursement with my insurance company back home. Travelers who rely on basic English skills may find it difficult to handle such situations, especially when time is tight for returning flights. While I didn't suffer an actual financial loss, it gave me a deeper understanding of how Italian car rental companies operate. I strongly suggest that when renting a car in European countries, you insist that the staff carefully verify and document all existing scratches during pickup to reduce the chances of being taken advantage of.

This is the second time renting from this company. They provided an Italian local brand, Lancia. Although it's a small car, it performs excellently on the narrow roads of many small towns in Italy. With a 1.0-liter engine and electric assistance, fuel consumption is extremely low, and the space is sufficient for two people. I purchased full insurance directly from the car rental agency for peace of mind. The staff assured me that even if the car is damaged extensively, there's no need to pay. During drop-off, they didn't even inspect the car.
