Mostly fine but leaking gas when refilling super dangerous.

Pre-check in works great and it made it a lot faster to pick up the car. The also upgraded my car and swapped it for free when I needed more space.

It worked really well. I didn't notice the drop price protector.

Pickup and drop-off were very convenient

There are many car rental companies in the US. A friend recommended AVIS, so I didn't spend much time comparing. Based on what I saw, AVIS seems reasonably priced among the bigger companies. Companies like HERTZ are quite expensive! AVIS and BUDGET are part of the same company, and I guess AVIS might be slightly more expensive. They have a lot of new cars (as big companies typically do) and great service. They don't push for extra insurance and are very considerate. We arrived at Bozeman late, around 1 AM. The staff was patient and explained that while they could give us the car early, there would be an extra charge unless we returned it early. Extra drivers cost about $15 per day, which is cheap. In San Francisco, AVIS does not charge for an extra driver.

At counter they made us rebook as they could not find the booking

The vehicle was not prepared for rental. It had not been cleaned and was not re-fuelled. The lack of fuel was reported to Avis before we left the rental lot. I paid for a full tank of gas, On returning the vehicle, I complained about the lack of preparation, cleanliness and missing gas. The only thing Avis was prepared to do was refund the charge for gas. It remains to be seen whether this gets paid. The vehicle itself wasn't great. There was a loud annoying squeak that was irrutating throughout the 2 week rental. The ride of the vehicle could best be describes as 'agricultural', i.e. not very comfortable.

Booking process was okay. No benefit from price drop protector.
