AVIS offered a Spring Festival promotion which seemed attractive, so I decided to rent from them, but the experience turned out to be quite frustrating. When picking up the car, there were about five people ahead of me, and I had to wait for over half an hour—it was extremely slow. Finally, a Black lady assisted me. She swapped my reservation to a compact SUV, which I agreed to, but the first car she gave me had a front camera missing, leaving a black hole there, and the panel near the right headlight was coming apart—it was clearly a car involved in an accident. I went back and requested a replacement. She said she'd give me a new car but ended up giving me a Mazda with over 20,000 miles on it. By then, it was already past 5 PM, so I took the car and headed to Fort Worth. The next day, I discovered the right front tire was a different brand from the other three and had a visible bulge. I went to three local AVIS stores, but none of them agreed to replace the car. In the end, I had to drive back to Dallas Airport to get a replacement. I directly told the counter staff I was 'very disappointed with AVIS service' before they finally gave me a Kia SUV with over 10,000 miles.
When I arrived at the counter, they immediately told me the car model I booked was unavailable. The replacement car was a size smaller. They claimed all the remaining cars were reserved, clearly trying to take advantage of me. Additionally, they had no idea how to register two drivers for the same car, meaning I paid extra for a second driver for nothing. The rental and insurance documents didn’t reflect the second driver feature. They also said the car had CarPlay, but it came without a connection cable. When I asked at the counter, they told me I had to provide my own cable. In the U.S., you can't go anywhere without map navigation, so I was very frustrated. Fortunately, I had purchased full coverage insurance, so the staff couldn’t upsell me on additional insurance. After multiple negotiations, they waived a $25 fuel fee for me.
Very satisfied overall. However, due to a miscalculation of the time difference, the booking was scheduled for a day later than my actual arrival. As a result, I had to rent an extra day separately, which was very expensive at the store's standard rates. Next time, I'll make sure to account for the time difference properly to avoid such issues. The hotel was also booked for a day later, and I had to pay for the first night on-site, which was quite costly.
