This experience was very frustrating! 1. I specifically requested the same model as last year, as I rented a Corolla from this company before. However, they insisted on giving me a Kia instead. 2. Last year, there were no upselling attempts, but this time they sneakily added a roadside assistance service during our conversation and charged me an extra $60+. I only noticed it because I got a notification from my credit card's WeChat service. When I told them I already bought full insurance, they said this service was unrelated to the insurance and that the charge was non-refundable since it had already been processed. Seriously... 3. The car they gave me kept showing a low tire pressure warning for the front left tire. I called someone to check, and they said it was only slightly lower than the other tires and that the warning would go away after driving. But throughout the entire six-day rental period, the alert never disappeared. While it wasn’t a slow leak—it was just 0.5 psi lower than the other tires—it made me constantly anxious during my trip. I travel to the U.S. 2-3 times a year and rent a car every time, but this was the worst experience I've had so far. I don’t think I’ll choose Thrifty again in the future.

I saw that online reviews for this company were not very high. When I arrived at the store, I was told that the Ford EDGE model I had booked was unavailable and that I had been upgraded to a Volvo CX40. At the time, I assumed this was a free upgrade (since in hotels and car rentals in China, if the original room type or vehicle you booked is unavailable, upgrades are generally free). After picking up the car in the parking lot, I realized that the Volvo CX40 was smaller than the original EDGE, and my luggage wouldn't fit. So, I carefully examined their receipt and fee details and discovered that the upgrade to the Volvo CX40 incurred an extra charge of $48 per day—almost double the original price. I returned to the counter and told them I wouldn't accept this arrangement, after which they switched me back to the Ford EDGE. This indicates that they must have had the EDGE available from the start but intentionally claimed it was unavailable to lure customers into upgrading with hidden charges. After returning to my home country, I discovered that, in addition to the amount I had already prepaid through the rental platform, they charged my credit card another $326. About $100 of this was for an insurance upgrade, which I accept, but the remaining $200+ was for unclear charges. I am currently disputing these with the company. This rental company has serious integrity issues, and I advise everyone to be cautious when choosing them.

The queue for picking up the car was extremely long. I arrived early in the morning and waited several hours until noon to get the car. When I accidentally entered the highway, I wanted to pay the toll myself, but the rental company did not allow it and required payment through them, charging a $20 service fee.

About Thrifty: 2.0 /10
We had already purchased insurance, but they still aggressively tried to upsell additional insurance. To avoid trouble, we reluctantly bought a little more, fearing that they might give us a bad car if we refused. Perhaps they were dissatisfied with what we bought, as we ended up with a very poor-quality car with over 60,000 miles on it. The car vibrated while idling at red lights, making the experience dreadful and giving us constant fear that it might break down on the road. Initially, we didn't notice issues at lower speeds, but on the highway, when we drove over 70 mph, the entire car shook. We had to keep the speed below 65 mph. We will not rent vehicles from this company again. (Additionally, there was a hidden charge, which we are checking with the bank to identify. It may be related to a high-speed toll system they promoted. They claimed it was pay-as-you-go and refundable for unused amounts, but if this charge turns out to be non-refundable, it’s truly unacceptable. We will provide further clarification once confirmed.)
