The counter staff were quite friendly, their English level was good, and they even personally assisted with the car pickup.

I picked up the car at Rome Fiumicino Airport. The directions from the arrival hall to the second floor were very clear, and the counter service was quick. Self-pickup car, a brand new hybrid with only 21 kilometers. Returning the car outside Florence Airport was initially challenging as I had trouble finding it. After asking for directions, I finally found it. It wasn’t far, but the route was somewhat complex. Car return involved a simple inspection and some questions. Not sure if there will be any issues later since the pre-authorization is still pending.

The car had PLENTY of dings and scratches, many of which I had to point out when picking the car up. They don't have unlimited mileage on our car rental, and we only found out about this after we picked up the car. When we returned the car, we had to wait about 40 minutes in line, thankfully we got to the airport early. We were happy to pay the charges, but when we received the receipt and asked our service person, they kept giving us vague answers that didn't make sense. We then went into the manager's office who then proceeded to say that in Italy, there are taxes on taxes. Okay? What does that mean? He wouldn't go on to explain any more. Just beware of hidden charges at Hertz, Dollar and the rest of the fleet, just another typical car rental shop that sends you hidden charges upon return of a vehicle.

Hertz wouldn’t rent to me. I contacted them ahead of time to see if they would accept my temporary license and they said they would. Upon arrival they told me they wouldn’t accept it and so they couldn’t rent to me. I ended up renting from a different company.
