I initially thought renting a car in Italy would be complicated. But Hertz made it very simple. When asked if I needed additional insurance, I declined and they didn’t push it further. Driving in Italian cities can be challenging as people drive fast and don’t follow rules. However, I enjoyed driving on Italian highways; everyone drives fast but follows the rules, similar to Northern Europe.

I picked up the car at Rome Fiumicino Airport. The directions from the arrival hall to the second floor were very clear, and the counter service was quick. Self-pickup car, a brand new hybrid with only 21 kilometers. Returning the car outside Florence Airport was initially challenging as I had trouble finding it. After asking for directions, I finally found it. It wasn’t far, but the route was somewhat complex. Car return involved a simple inspection and some questions. Not sure if there will be any issues later since the pre-authorization is still pending.

When picking up the car, we found its condition unsatisfactory, primarily due to high mileage. We expressed our concerns to the rental company and Hertz replaced it, which we appreciated. However, there was an issue with being forced to buy insurance at the store. Even though we had already purchased it on QEEQ, they insisted. This was frustrating.

Staff at counter was very rude at drop off. Staff at pickup were dismissive and not helpful. Forced car on us we did not want or book. They tried to up sell us to get what we had originally booked. Horrible hertz.
