Fine … Still bummed I didn’t get the Fiat I had reserved

The service at the Rome FCO airport branch was decent, and there was no upselling of insurance. However, the car's overall condition was not great—high mileage, squeaky brakes, and it broke down after driving over 2,600 kilometers. It was a hassle to get a replacement car, which disrupted our plans in Venice. Local small companies are still not as reliable as large chain companies: fewer locations and difficulty in reaching the nearest branch to Venice by phone.

Overall, not bad. Arrived at the store half an hour early, but they wouldn't let me pick up the car until the scheduled time—too inflexible. Got a small Volkswagen SUV, brand new with just over 10,000 km on the odometer. The booking stated full-to-full fuel policy, but in practice, it's based on the fuel gauge reading, which is hard to manage precisely. If you return it slightly under, there's a penalty with no room for negotiation, so you end up over-refueling. The company is very strict about vehicle inspections. Upon return, they even check the underside of the front bumper for scratches by touch. The return process requires an in-person inspection with an immediate report. If you return the car on your own without this process, you can't verify the vehicle's condition later, and it could lead to disputes.

When I arrived, the place was relatively empty, so there was almost no waiting time. The rental process went smoothly—they just briefly asked if I had purchased insurance from a third party, and once I confirmed I had, they didn’t push for additional insurance. The car was fairly new, with a mileage of 20,000 kilometers. Returning the car was also hassle-free; after the vehicle inspection, they confirmed everything was fine, and the deposit was refunded within about a week.
