The queue was quite long, and the two-door Mini I reserved was not available; instead, I was given a Volkswagen Golf. They claimed it was an upgrade, but as a solo traveler, driving a four-door car with a longer body made parking in narrow European streets particularly difficult. Also, I had already selected and paid for full insurance online, but when I arrived at the store, they pushed an additional 90-euro insurance to ensure I felt safe driving away with the car. Furthermore, it is customary to receive a full tank of fuel when picking up the car and return it with a full tank. However, they charged a 90-euro fuel fee, stating that the fuel cost would be refunded based on the amount consumed upon return. After refilling the tank and returning the car, I expected the 90 euros to be refunded but only received 78 dollars back. The difference of over 20 dollars was labeled as a fuel management fee. When I complained, they gave this explanation, which seemed unreasonable. Based on this online reservation experience, I concluded that renting for 4 days was supposed to cost 660 yuan (4 days rental with full insurance) according to the online plan, but the actual cost was 660 yuan plus 90 euros for additional insurance and over 20 dollars for the fuel management fee, totaling over 1500 yuan. Next time, I'd prefer to go to the airport and compare the value-for-money options of different brands' stores before renting a car.

Quite pushy with the sell up insurance and clearly weren't happy with me refusing it. I had to point out quite a few damages that weren't on the original damage report. Two days after dropping the car back off they rang me to ask why I hadn't dropped it off yet, I told them when/where I dropped it off, they have emailed me with the end of hire report so guessing it was just an error but they haven't rang back to explain or apologise.

“Terrible car, terrible customer service by Goldcar - they have not even apologised”

I collected a hire car from you at Malaga airport on the 5th August 2019. Initially I felt the biting point of the car felt high. The car was then lightly driven to our apartment in Manilva and a few time locally over the next 6 days. I estimate I covered 200km over flat local roads and driving safely with my young family. On the Sunday 11th around 9:30am, we drove as a family to Estepona and the car was losing drive and appeared the clutch was failing. (Your mechanical report will be able to provide technical diagnosis). I managed to get the car very carefully and slowly into Estepona. I then immediately called Goldcar customer services to inform them of the situation and they advised me to drive to Malaga airport to replace the car as this was the only office open on Sunday. Just outside Estepona approaching the AP7, the car came to a complete halt on the side of the road and was no longer drivable. On calling the breakdown recovery service and reporting the issue, a tow truck came to collect me and my young son. As you will appreciate, the hour wait for the tow truck in plus 30 degree heat on the side of a dual carriage way, put my son and I at considerable risk of harm. The car had to be winched onto the back of the tow truck. We continued our journey to the Goldcar Garage next to the airport and were able to collect our things from the car. We were then driven back to the car collection point within the airport. By this time about 3 hours have elapsed and we joined a queue which took a further 45 mins to be served.On reporting the issue, I would have expected a replacement car would have be provided, as the original car had fallen short of the service we had paid for i.e. being driveable. We would have also have expected an apology from Goldcar for not proving a roadworthy car that we had paid for in good faith. This was not to be the case

“Worst company ever”

The worst car rental on my life. It is outrageous this company is still legal. They steal you money. They are dishonnest and liars. They force you to pay double for the fuel and they force you to take an insurance that multiply by 5 thé price of the rental.

The overall experience was positive except when I arrive at the Goldcar counter was pushed to buy another insurance which I did not buy. And the staff said that my insurance isn't good enough so she wanted me to buy another insurance on top of the one that I already have. After me kept saying no to another insurance she blocked my credit card ( which the norm). Also I had to pay €20 of airport fees which I didn't understand why because when I booked online I paid premium to have all taxes included. The staff at the counter was rude and lied to me. She said that the credit card deposit would take a month to return to my bank account but I asked another staff on the drop off and they told me in less than 2 weeks. With Goldcar never again.
