Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 8 year(s).

The following models require 13 year's of license holding time: Toyota Kluger, Toyota Prado, Kia Optima, Mercedes E Class, Renault Traffic, Toyota Proace 9 Places, Skoda Karoq Suv Aut, Mercedes C-class, Volvo Xc60

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

EU/EEA driving licenses are valid for car rental across the EU/EEA, as well as in Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Vehicles can be driven in Northern Ireland and UK mainland. Travels to Europe mainland are not permitted. An additional charge of 170.25 EUR will be charged for travels to the UK mainland. At all airport locations the charge is 202.60 EUR. Travels to Northern Ireland are free of charge. Customers must always inform the rental branch of their intention to travel to the UK mainland with the vehicle and require authorization.

It was a brand new car so it was great. Heard a lot of horror stories about renting in Ireland so went with Alamo because of the good reviews. Not a single problem or issue and the staff were fantastic. Will most definitely use them again on future trips!

Only slight criticism is the process of getting on the bus to car pick-up. It’s a bit of a lottery because there is no queue system. Other than that, everything was very positive, especially the lady from Dooleys who booked us in as Enterprise desk had a queue.

They rented us a car without working headlights. We discovered the problem on our second evening (of five day/nights) and had to drive back on tiny Irish roads with almost no lighting. It was terrifying. When I called the next morning, they told me to go get them fixed and that I would be reimbursed. We were in a tiny village on holiday so we just decided to forgo that experience. We didn't drive at night again but that was quite inconvenient. I would like to get a partial reimbursement since I do not consider this a fair or reasonable rental situation.

The staff at the store were warm and welcoming. The car was very new and in excellent condition, equipped with features like a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, and seats that offer both heating and massage functions. On Ireland's narrow country roads, it's unavoidable to occasionally brush against roadside tree branches. The rental company explicitly stated during pickup that such minor scrapes are not considered damage. During the rental period, the left side mirror had a minor collision. I initially planned to claim insurance for it, but the staff member didn't count it as damage.
